Julia grew up in Marshfield, Massachusetts and graduated in the 2021 from Merrimack College. She received degrees in Early Childhood Education and Human Development with minors in Psychology and Religion. Her service will take place at Our Mother of Sorrows/St. Ignatius School where she is excited to connect with her students and watch them grow throughout the school year.
I, Julia Behm, commit myself to being an Augustinian Volunteer, by being vulnerable with my community, connecting with my students, growing with God, and striving to be fully present for and with those around me.
What led you to a year of service?
I decided to commit myself to a year of service because it felt like the right next step in my life. After graduating college, I wasn’t interested in settling down in a teaching job yet and I was interested in rekindling my faith as well as my sense of self. I am looking forward to reconnecting to myself as well as God throughout the year.

What song can you listen to over and over again?
“Simple Things” by Teddy Swims
Favorite book or a recent book you read
My favorite book is The End of the Beginning by Avi. It tells the story of a snail and an ant who set out on a journey in hopes to find the key to a happy life as well as the excitement in life they both feel that they have been missing.
Who or what inspires you most?
My mom inspires me the most. She is a hard-working woman who has taught me a plethora of things but one of the most important is to never give up.
Best moment as an AV to date
We had a few AV alumni over for dinner and a game night which was a great way to connect with my community as well as connect and get advice from previous volunteers.
What do you like most about living in your new city so far?
So far, I have been loving the free yoga that is offered on the Race Street Pier. I have been able to enjoy the warm end of summer air as well as connect to my mind and body.
