Basil grew up in Newark, Delaware. He attended Villanova University where he majored in Sociology while minoring in Counseling and Arabic. This year, he will be a part of the Ventura community and working in case management at HELP of Ojai. He is looking forward to exploring the local community as well as meeting new people!

How did you develop a passion for service?
My great uncle is the person who inspired me to pursue a career in social services. He cared for everyone around him and was engaged in his community. It was through this example that I developed a passion for service from a very young age.

Share an issue you’re passionate about and why.
An issue that I am passionate about is ensuring that everyone has access to mental health services. Whether it be young people in schools/colleges, members of marginalized communities, or anyone who may feel isolated in the midst of this pandemic, it is essential that as a community, we check in with others and take care of our mental health needs.
Best moment as an AV to date?
My favorite moment so far as an AV was our recent trip to Santa Barbara! We did a community hike along the coast and visited one of the Mission Churches in Santa Barbara. This has been one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
What do you like most about living in your new city so far?
What I love most about our city is being so close to the beach and so many different hiking trails. I love the outdoors and it is so great to be within walking distance from so many cool spots.
